If you love history, justice and romance – then this book is for you!

Set back in the time of the American civil war, Engraved on the Heart is an intriguing book that looks at the struggles of slavery, social expectation and faith.

One of the things i enjoyed about this book was the perspective it brought to the readers about what it must be like to be living in place where government and society, openly oppose and condemn what you believe and are actively working against you to bring down your movement – not so unlike the times we are living in today. Also the struggle to have loved ones caught on both sides of the fight seemed so tortuous and an unenviable position to be in.

I also really enjoyed the way Tara brought in Keziah’s epilepsy and how something that was outside of her control, significantly influenced her life, her future prospects and her reputation.

This was a great piece of historical fiction and a book i would heartily recommend.

Rating 9/10
